Opportunity Actions: Blog Like It’s The End Of The World ’11 Timeline

This past Monday was “Blog Like It’s The End Of The World”, a yearly event where people pretend the zombie apocalypse has struck. I participated in it last year (right here at RPGMusings, no less), and have decided to make a tradition of it. This year, I posted both to Twitter and Facebook. I’m including any responses people had to what I had to say, and also used found images to make a photo-journal of the event. Enjoy!

Midnight

There’s a weird chill in the air tonight. Heard a couple ambulances. Maybe I’m just paranoid. I hope my wife gets home ok.

10 AM

Wife got home ok. Good. Told me there was somebody standing outside our gate. She drove around the block & he was gone. That’s odd.

Apparently, they were getting overflow in the ER from other hospitals. Animal bites. I’ll bet it’s some West Nile thing.

Facebook Responses:

-There is definitely some weird s__t going down… Stay safe!

-Rabies…

11 AM

No mail today. Saw the mailman wandering the neighborhood aimlessly. He looked lost.

Found my mail in the street. More bills. There was blood on the envelopes. Wonder how that happened.

Noon

Damn! There was just a big accident near my house. A crowd is gathering. I’m gonna check it out.

Facebook Response:

-Watch out man, the crowds today are pretty borked and full of bitey douchebags.

Ok, nevermind that! Thought the crowd at the accident were getting kinda close. They had the car open and were EATING THE DRIVER!

2 PM

Went off the grid for a bit. One of them broke a window, & I ran the kids into the basement. I’m going out there with a shovel.

Facebook Responses:

-Get yourself a gun man!

-But I don’t have to reload a shovel! (ME)

10 PM

Ok, house is locked down. Hopefully the 7-11 still has supplies. Shovel in hand. Gotta avoid the hospital.

11 PM

Made it back. Bug out bag packed. Gonna hold vigil till my wife gets home. She gets home, we’re going to the safehouse.

While I was out, saw a body on the sidewalk. It lunged at me. Swung shovel at it’s head til there was nothing left. It’s still bugging me.

I may have to throw some GWAR on the mp3 player, grab the shovel, and clear some of them out.

Midnight

Damn, one of them got too close while I was outside. I can’t stop hearing a high-pitched buzzing noise. They won’t get me here.

Summary

So there you have it, a cautionary tale. Trying to stay safe at home leads to tragedy. Truth be told, if it were really the Zombiegeddon, I’d probably make smarter choices, but for the purposes of this, it seemed more fun to take the big risks. That may be a future post, there.

I have to admit, I was less prolific this year than last year. I still got a narrative out of it, but I wish I could have done more.

What do we think? Does it work? I look forward to your comments.

Watch your threatened squares.
